Franklin Mint Signers of the Declaration Set

I found a Franklin Mint Signers of the Declaration of Independance set at a pawn shop today. It is the complete 56 piece set in the book. The coins are all proof condition in the capsules. The book is in like new shape except it has a couple of scuffs on the inside of the front cover. The coins are sterling silver. I know what the melt value of the sterling silver would be but does this set have a lot of collector value. I'm a newbie to coins and I have only been buying bullion. The only reason that I am considering this purchase is because it was offered to me for 20 bucks per ounce. The full set was priced to me for $1,120.00. APMEX is selling sterling rounds for about 19 bucks each at this moment. Is $1,120.00 a good price for this collector set or should I pass?

Why did a "collector" sell it to a pawn shop? The set will likely end up at a refinery:wink: Buy pure bullion. JMHO

Are you saying that it has no value beyond its bullion value?

Exactly, less refining costs.

Agreed.

If you can buy if for less than 90% of spot, it is worth it. Otherwise, buy bullion.

Well, since it is from the Franklin mint and it has a nice presentation case, and if each round states .925 silver, I would bring cash and count out for him the exact amount plus 20FRN for the case. If he says no, pick up your FRNs and walk out the door.

Pawn shops love cash, I suspect he will take you up on your offer.

If you are really ballsy, count out 100FRN less and see if he takes it.
